A Different Way to
Meet the Brush

The experience begins before the brush touches the paper.

With the eyes closed, a few deep breaths allow the pace to slow. Ink is then ground calmly, accompanied by the soft sound of the Sumi ink stick and the distinctive aroma of it.

After settling into an upright posture, the writing begins. A simple method allows attention to stay with the act of writing, making it easier to become absorbed without worrying about how the finished piece should look.

Stroke by stroke, outside thoughts begin to recede. The writing that remains is not the destination, but the record of that time spent simply being yourself.

Become Absorbed

As the brush continues to move, attention naturally stays with each stroke. Little by little, the mind becomes quieter.

Take the Moment
With You
The finished piece is not the goal. It remains as a record of the time you spent freeing the mind and returning to yourself.

Guidance, Not Correction

Kumiko introduces the brush, ink and paper, then gently guides the process without judging how the finished writing should look.

Mind-Free
Calligraphy

Mind-Free Calligraphy is a way of creating time to return to yourself.

In daily life, attention is constantly drawn outward—to what needs to be done, how things should be, and what others may expect. Here, the brush offers a reason to leave those thoughts aside for a while.

The aim is not to produce beautiful writing or to express something deliberately. As the mind becomes quieter, the hand simply continues to write.

What remains on the paper is the result of that process—a record of the time in which the mind was gradually set free.
